About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Meet the Dinosaurs.

Saturday 7th October

We pulled pins today and did the grand total of....  a 50 yards. Slightly nearer to The Globe but it was really all to do with trying to get a better TV signal. Telly along this stretch is almost non-existent and the aerial needs to be as high as possible to even have the chance of picking up a signal but then, having moved, found we lost what little signal we had all together!  Bang goes watching Strictly tonight!

Today was also Oscars 9th birthday party at the Gullivers Land Theme Park by Campbell Park. So you might ask why we left there on Thursday to cruise to Linslade and now have to catch two buses to get back. Well, Sunday we are due to meet with Jan the President of the Australian Canal Society. We first met Jan and some of the society in Sydney and made very welcome by them making us  honorary members. To read about that click here

So it was imperative that we get the boat to the Globe and find a mooring. And as for those buses, it was a doddle. Walk into Leighton Buzzard by Tesco, catch the no.70 to Milton Keynes and then an 8 to Campbell Park. Took a little over 40 minutes and with us being in our twilight years, we travelled for free with the bus passes.

Never having been at Gullivers it was an eye-opener. Unfortunately, as we hadn't paid to enter we were whisked through the grounds pretty quick but those dinosaurs were so lifelike that our youngest grandson Thomas was terrified! We were then ushered into another building for the games of which yours truly joined in. A bit like paintballing with guns but with soft bullets that stuck to special worn vests. Two teams, so it was adults verse kids. Brilliant fun and came away feeling I had done my quota of exercise for the whole week. After hot dogs and cake, it was time to return to our sons. Copious amounts of alcohol later (he is such a bad influence) Colin finally drove us back to FS.

Anyway now for the photos,

Oscar one happy boy.
