About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

It needed a good scrubbing.

Friday 15th

38 minutes, our total travel time today and in the rain 'cos we fully expected the wet stuff to continue all day.  Only had a mile or so to go so what mattered if one of us got a bit wet! We never made it to Hack Green, stopping early because we reached Coole Pilate, a long length of visitor moorings with picnic tables. A great opportunity to utilise one of the tables for the scrubbing of the cratch cover, the inside of which was a disgrace. First we needed some dry weather though. 20 minutes after we moored the rain stopped! Typical, if only we had delayed our journey we could have travelled in the dry.

Didn't last long though, so maybe the met office was right after all. We did have a long enough lull to wash FS and get the cratch cover scrubbed (boy did it need a bit of elbow grease) before the rain started again in earnest. Got the cover back on the King board just in time and the rain didn't let up for the rest of the day.

Plenty of boats arrived later in the afternoon. Must be a very popular weekend spot. Met a lovely single hander lady who pulled in as we were washing the cratch cover. Got chatting and invited her in for tea. Linda was her name with her rescue dog Molly. She brought cake!!! I am SO not allowed cake on this diet but...Oh what the heck. Shortbread yesterday and lemon tarts today....the diet starts again tomorrow.

Taken last night.
