Latest weather models show the category-4 storm, currently unleashing 140mph-plus gales off the coast of the United States rapidly strengthening as it moves towards the UK.
Rather than losing energy on its path across the cool Atlantic waters, experts warn instead it is becoming more powerful driven by the Sun and the jet stream.
Britain could be in the firing line for a catastrophic battering worse even than the historic storm of October 1987 if Joaquin continues on its current track.
Piers Corbyn, forecaster for WeatherAction, said exceptionally strong solar activity in the western Atlantic is charging the storm on its UK-bound journey.
So because of this we decided to nip to Gifford Park (approx 2 miles) fill with water and empty loo and then return to Newlands to sit it out. So many times the forecasters have been wrong and we have battened down the hatches for nothing but, you never know, this time they may well be correct.

Having done the biz at Gifford we headed back, only to arrive at Newlands to find all the spaces taken. Nothing for it but to wind and go back to Campbell park. Thankfully we have only been here for a little over a week so still complying with the mooring regs. Now to sit it out and await the storm. Barometer is dropping so something is coming!

They now think it will sort of split when it reaches us with some of it going to the north and some to the south just as it gets to us as we will have high pressure over the UK..
