About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Bristol V Bath

Even though we were right by a road it was still a quiet and pleasant mooring.
Bristol.....what a difference from Bath. Bristol was heaving with fun loving jet setters out to have a good time, be it day or night. Bath on the other hand, also heaving but this time with more touristy folk admiring the architecture and history. It has a different feel and whereas Bristol is definitely worth a return visit, I cant see us ever coming back to Bath. What we did see we thought well worth the visit. The Jane Austin house with it's waxwork of Jane (the only true likeness of her to be seen anywhere in the world) Exploring a house in the famous Royal Crescent, The Roman Baths and of course the Cathedral (although both of us were very disappointed in the Cathedral). We did open top bus tours but again not so good or as informative as the Bristol tours. With only a full day here some of the attractions were out of the question but again nothing to make us want to return. All in all a bit disappointing really. Tonight we are off to find a real ale pub serving food. The ones we walked past today didnt look promising. May go hungry and thirsty tonight if nothing is found!

So now for the photos.

Bath Cathedral
The only impressive bit of the Cathedral. There is a roof top tour but it's at certain times and last 2 hours. Probably well worth doing as the views from the top are supposedly spectacular.

Looking at the Cathedral from inside the Roman Baths.

The warm mineral waters of the Roman Baths. Ian just had to dip a toe in!!!

Underfloor heating! The pillars would have held up a floor
