Its been one of those days when everything Ian attempted to do went wrong. So many plans for today all of which was very doable but he was very nearly beaten into submission by 30mm of steel. All he wanted to do was drill two 76mm holes in each locker to act as air vents. Condensation was a real issue and the amount of loose rust removed when we were in the dock proved that. So he marked out where the holes would be, attached his holesaw and started to drill. Well try as he might the holesaw just wasnt man enough for the job. Off again to Screwfix to purchase a heavy duty holesaw. He was pretty certain that this time the holes would be cut out in no time. Wrong!!! It barely touched the steel even though Ian put as much pressure on the drill as possible. By now a good 2 hours had past. A simple enough job that refused to be made simple.
Next he thought he would try drilling a pilot hole and use the jigsaw. 3 blades ruined by this attempt, snapping in half, and the only one to survive had all the teeth completely filed away. Another hour wasted! Then he had a sudden thought. Why not use his angle grinder and attach the slitting disc. If this worked he would cut out a rectangle instead. Well the sparks did fly and I was very concerned about the cratch cover catching light (it didn't!) and after 15 minutes of hard graft, the steel finally gave way.

He was that relieved I can tell you 'cause at one point he very nearly gave up. Wouldn't have blamed him one bit but Ian is not one for giving up. Just means now that all the other jobs planned for today will have to wait until tomorrow. Dennis and Margaret also return to 'Icing' tomorrow and had suggested Sunday lunch out but not sure if we will get the time. Will just have to play it by ear.
