About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Another tour bites the dust

Day 22

Glad our dressing up malarkey is now at an end and all the Tux and posh frocks can now be packed ready for us to leave the ship on the 28th.  Did enjoy the Captains farewell cocktail party and at dinner we had the grand Chefs parade of the Baked Alaska. Bit of fun really but not sure why its the Baked Alaska that gets paraded.

After dinner the show was again excellent and then we all troupes down to the Ballindalloch Restaurant for the chefs food display. Tables were ready for anyone to sample the food but at nearly midnight we gave that part a miss. My waistline has already increased to gigantic proportions and I'm beginning to look forward to eating sensibly again.

So I found out why there is the three days of mourning.  King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia died on Friday so this might scupper our chances of going round the souk and getting hold of a bargain. Seeing as how our tour in Muscat was cancelled buses were to be laid on so we could visit the town center but, because of the Kings death,we are now not sure what will happen, no doubt we will find out later.

We arrive at Muscat 3.30pm mainly for a fuel stop and a treat is in store before we dock. As it's Burns night we are to enjoy the Parade of the Haggis at the sail in party. More on that tomorrow. For now it's another lazy day enjoying the sun and pool and getting the tan topped up.

Dead calm this morning

Anyone for a Cocktail?
