About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

The Jameison's bad luck continues (but not just to us)

Very quiet day after the trauma of yesterday. Walking the dogs and a bit of shopping was the most energetic thing we did. A unexpected text message from Roger and Pat The Cat's Whiskers last night gave us the opportunity to meet up with them in Huddersfield. They arrived by bus around midday'ish and first stop to Wetherspoons for a natter and well deserved pint or two.

Then we parted company for a short while, us to walk and find Lidl and them to browse the delights of Huddersfield. Now I'm starting to think that the Jameisons are cursed in some way and that, unfortunately, includes those that visit us. I'll tell you for why........ We had arranged to meet Roger and Pat back at FS at about 2.30ish.  We had found Lidl and loaded our bags with goodies so got back to FS first. Ian had the rucksack on his back and I needed to help him to remove it.  I placed my duffel bag on the towpath, stepped onto the boat, started to help Ian when I suddenly became aware of this Jack Russel sniffing round the bag with great interest. Next thing I know he cocks his leg all over the outside spraying copious amounts of wee, well a lot for a Jack Russel, all over one side. I shouted at him, the owner shouted at him and all we got back was a menacing growl! Not wanting to get bitten I left well alone but I was not happy!! The chap was mortified and just kept saying sorry. Suddenly I saw the funny side what with everything that has happened lately it's just another one of those mishaps that seem to happen to us recently. After quickly removing the bags contents, the bag went straight into the washing machine.
Not long after that incident Roger and Pat arrive. I relay the story and we all have a bit of a laugh. After coffee and a lot of boaty talk they got up to leave to catch the bus back. Now this is where the Jameison curse must have rubbed off on our guests because, as Pat was stepping off the boat, she drops her handbag in the water!  A quick scrabble on her knees and she scopes the very wet bag out of the cut. What luck it didn't sink! and thankfully everything inside were still dry. So handing over a plastic carrier bag to place the now dripping bag in, they left us, no doubt wandering what they had done to deserve the Jameison bad luck.

We spent the rest of the afternoon watching the Commonwealth games and then Ian decided to check his emails on the laptop. A cry of  'What on the earth' made me look in his direction and then at his computer. The screen had gone pink, everything written went light blue and the task bar was duplicated further down the screen. Jameison curse again??????

Thought I would include this photo, taken today when the sun came out late afternoon.
