About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Might be able to have our say about C&RT funding after all!

Yesterday  a comment from Kevin TOO brought to my attention this passage,

I would like to invite you to come along to the meeting from 3pm on Saturday 8 February in Nottingham. The meeting will take place at Waterfront, Castle Wharf, Canal Street, Nottingham, NG1 7EH, and a light buffet will be provided. The meeting is expected to last for a couple of hours. We are sending these invitations to boaters living or currently cruising in the Nottingham area and, while everyone is very welcome, Richard is particularly keen to reach boaters who don’t normally go to user groups or other meetings with the Trust and have not had the chance to talk to us face to face.

Please note that capacity is limited so do email me if you would like to come along, and please feel free to extend the invitation to other boaters who may be interested.

The email to use is fran.read"at"canalrivertrust.org.uk, replacing the "at" with @

Well Ian spoke to Howard, our ECP&DA Chirman, who says he was reliably informed that Richard Parry will be at Sandiacre Lock's open day on Sunday. As both Ian and myself have offered our services as volunteers, the opportunity may arise that we can speak to Richard about our concerns on the funding issue before the February meeting. I'm just hoping he will listen to our concerns and not fob us off as has been so often the case in the past.

And finally:-

Hi Irene
James and I went to the Birmingham meeting yesterday evening and I agree with Jo that Richard is very approachable. If you don't get the opportunity to speak with him at the open day I'm sure you'll be able to at the meeting. xx
