About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Josh's 3rd birthday

What a great day yesterday. The kids got a bit loud but the adults came up trumps by drowning out the lot of them. Something to do with the amount of drink perhaps??   The rain held off until well into the afternoon when we had a terrific thunderstorm. Christine and Kev did put on a brilliant spread and Kev didn't even burn the sausages ( that's a first ) although some of the burgers got a bit soggy when we had a short cloud burst. Josh had loads of presents and a fabulous digger for a birthday cake. His face was a picture when he saw that..

As both Christine and Kev had enjoyed a drink, it wasn't advisable for them to return us back to the boat. So instead we slept in their double airbed on the floor in the living room. Not usually a problem but the airbed developed a leak so both Ian and I ended up sleeping on the hard floor!!! My back this morning complained bitterly every time I moved. Ive come to the conclusion that, although I still feel 18, my aches and pains tell me my true age!!!
We have now returned to the boat after a hearty breakfast of cold sausages, sausage rolls and bacon butties. Tomorrow we set off again but probably only to Mercy Marina. After all, we have a week to get back to Langley Mill, and from Willington it is a very easy 2 day run.

More mooring madness.
