About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

Final day in Stratford and the purchase of a new high speed 3 dongle

Our post has been accumulating at our daughters house for weeks and the promise of a visit from Christine to deliver it here at Stratford never materialised so we asked for it to be sent post restante. Hoping to leave the basin sometime today, we asked her yesterday to send it next day delivery to arrive before 1pm, and then we would reimburse the cost. This she duly did but both Ian and I nearly had a blue fit when she told us it had totaled up to £14.75. More expense!! This is fast becoming a very expensive month for us, what with the sightseeing, eating out, numerous ice creams, the mail charges and now a new 3 high speed dongle which we payed all of £39.99 for. With all the trouble of getting a signal around these parts we went into the 3 shop ( housed inside Super Drug in case you ever find yourself in Stratford and needing a 3 store ) and bitched about their poor signal area. Of course they assured us that 97% of the UK can get a 3 signal without any problem and suggested it was our outdated dongle that was at fault. So we bit the bullet, as one might say, and purchased the said item. Now when we travel beyond Wooten Wawen toward Lapworth and, if their claim is correct, try to connect, we should be get onto the Internet without any problem.. If not its going straight back to the shop!!!

Anyway we once again did the touristy thing, first to see what the Regatta was all about ( bit disappointing really ) and then visit to the house where Shakespeare was born. I'll leave you with the inevitable photo's. Oh yes, and just before I sign off, we are still in the basin, not because we wanted to stay but because the mother of all storms hit us after lunch and only eased up by 4 ish. To late to contemplate going, and as no more boats have arrived looking for a mooring, felt it was okay for us to put of leaving until tomorrow morning.

And the race is on

Doing well until........
