About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

One more day to go. ( day 7 )

Both of us are now beginning to flag. Its been a long week but loads have been done. I cant wait until Friday morning when we float the boats and get moving again. Ian is already hoping that I wont scrap the lock gates or sides when I enter Trent lock, and undo all the hard work. The first job of the day was to wash the boats. The muck and dust covered everything and you should have seen the colour of the water in the bucket! After drying the sides, Ian  gave the starboard gunwales another coat of black gloss. He wasn't happy with the finish yesterday, it looked patchy and lacked the high gloss he wanted. He's a bit of a perfectionist so everything needs to be just right. My task today was to finish painting the boat poles and boards and redo the black club on the front gas locker and rear hatch.

I have practically finished all that I can do to the outside of the boat, but the inside is so filthy that every time we move around or sit down, a cloud of dust rises up covering us as well as the furnishings. Tomorrow I will knuckle down armed with mop and bucket and give it all a good once over.

This is Jade making her way to Dennis and Margaret. She has no worries about sidling round the wall to get to them.
