About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

The end is in sight.

Thank goodness we are leaving the dock tomorrow. Not that I havent enjoyed doing the blacking and painting, but I have seen the weather forecast for the next few days and its turning colder again with freezing temperature's over night. To think tomorrow evening our fire can be lit again. Oh what bliss!!!!! No more huddling under the duvet trying to keep warm. Today had been a mixture of clearing away tools, cleaning paint brushes, (not my favourite job) and making sure the dock area is free of any debris before the boats are floated in the morning. Ian has re attached the fenders, repacked the stern gland with grease, made sure the weed hatch is back in placegone out with the car to fetch a new gas cylinder, emptied both loo's and touched up the side of the boat after treating the chips with rust eater.

Somehow all this has to go back in the front locker!

Fixing the fender back in place.
We are due to be re floated about 9am in the morning. From here we head off to Mercia Marina in at Willington where Ian will leave me for 5 days while he travels to Sweden.,
