About Us

My photo
In 1977 we hired our first narrowboat from Anglo Welsh at Market Harborough. From that moment our destiny was set. In 2006 we finally purchased our own brand new 57' narrowboat which we named 'Free Spirit'. Our aim is to travel the length and breadth of all the navigable rivers and canals of the UK. This will be our story as it unfolds.

And now for the garden.

Finally I felt I had turned the corner with this virus of mine. Woke up with no headache and a throat that felt 100 times better. Decided to go to ' The House' with Ian and was met by Iwonas mum, Vwacha, who had arrived yesterday from Poland. She came with Polish cake, hams and sausages. It's wonderful having a Polish daughter in law. The food is to die for!!! With the sun shinning today Iwona asked if I would start on the garden. I like nothing better then a spot of gardening but what she had in mind was the complete destruction of the flower and shrub beds at the top end.  Armed with secateurs, branch loppers,  wood saw and trowel I started with loads of enthusiasm and gusto.  After a few hours I was beginning to wonder what I had let myself in for. These pictures show the task ahead.

                                                                       Before.

First shrub gone.

Found hidden in the shrubs.

Are you safe with that saw!!!!

How Colin is going to get rid of this lot is anyone guess.

What a difference.

There's always a robin hoping for the odd worm!!

Oscar returned from Nursery late afternoon and insisted on helping Nana. So I gave him a task. Move all the soil from one side of the garden to the other with his dumper truck.

Filling his truck

Wheeling it to the dumping area.

Tipping.

Back again.

He's made a start!!

Garden wall finished. All the earth in front has got to be dug out. Colin has decided to hire a mini digger. I do hope the wall survives his attempt to remove the soil!!

Finally a few more photos of the interior.

The room was finished just in time for Vwacha's visit.

Gary , the builder, had put coving up on the ceiling. Apparently this wasn't asked for, so Ian removed it all and now Gary will come back to re plaster the ceiling.
