Do you know. If it wasn't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all!!! This morning we went back to Nottingham to our bungalow in Sandiacre so Ian could install yet another new water heater for the bathroom. ( The first was undersized and didn't give enough hot water ). As my phone needed unlocking ( its tied to Orange ) we stopped off at Stapleford Village first where a guy we knew said he'd have a go at unlocking it for us. He took one look and told us that this particular phone, a Nokia C2, was one of the most difficult to unlock. It can be done but it will take 10 days and cost £25. Ouch!!! My cheap phone from e-bay is turning out not to be so cheap after all!! Anyway, as Ian walked back to the car he realised that some b+++rd had stolen the front number plate. Not the back, mind, just the front. Now what on earth would someone do with just one number plate???? Two definitely, but one!!! ""Had it fallen off" I asked Ian. "Highly unlikely" came his reply "seeing as the screws holding it on are missing as well". So when was it stolen??? The car was parked in a layby just off the main road and about 20 yds from the canal bridge. The 'continues moorers' park their cars in the same layby and told us they have never had any problems. So why us!!!! As soon as we got back to Wigston we went to report it to the local police station. Guess what! The station was being refurbished. Had scaffolding surrounding the whole building and not an entrance in sight!! Ian asked one of the workman if there was another local 'Bobby Shop' nearby, only to be told it was on the Welford road heading toward Leicester. Groan!! So we set off in the general direction of Leicester and eventually found the local constabulary. Ian reported the theft and he was duly given a crime number. Hopefully this will now be the end to it. I don't fancy a summons to court for some crime committed using our plate!! We still have to find a replacement to make us legal again and at the moment that's not as easy as it sounds. No one seems to be prepared to make one while we wait but we are still looking and as Ian is not one to give in easily, I have every faith that he will succeed.

I'm going to end on a good note. These photos were taken yesterday while we still had some snow on the ground. Most of the snow has all gone today but the ice seems as thick as ever still holding us in it's grip.

Number plate: watch out for a London congestion charge penalty notice. Don't know if you can tell them in advance to watch out for your number, and so catch the fraudster.
Thanks Bill. We hadn't even thought of that!!! Last thing we want is a huge congestion charge. Not sure who we need to contact, though. Maybe we should try DVLA first.

You did the right thing reporting the stolen number plate, if you want a pair making up questions are asked and document have to be produced, if you take one in and tell them you have broken or lost the other they usually don't bother asking for documentation. One tank full of stolen petrol at £70 or more using your registration soon pays for the making of one plate.
It might be prudent just to warn your insurance company. We are in different times now !

We had the fuzz here at Willington last Saturday, fixing folks' number plates on with one way security screws. Apparently front plates are a big theft target, because whilst you can get a rear plate on demand, for a trailer or whatever, they need to do checks before making a front plate, presumably because of all the systems that track your car round the country by taking photos of it, as well as the CC in London.
